Costa Rica Climate/Weather

Are There Earthquakes? Natural Disasters?

A hurricane has not hit Costa Rica in 174 years. The pacific coast does not get floods or tornados. There are occasional earthquakes, but not to the magnitude seen in California or other parts of the world. Costa Rica’s location, as it is small and inset from the rest of Central America, seems to shield it completely from the hurricanes and tropical storms that brew in the Caribbean waters. It does rain its fair share – it is made up extensively of rainforests – but Costa Rica doesn’t really experience any real extreme weather or significant natural disasters. The Costa Rican people say the reason for this is that God smiles down on their peaceful country and protects them.
