Is It Affordable To Purchase Vehicles In Costa Rica?

There are many US-style vehicles available to choose from in Costa Rica. Generally the purchase price is a bit higher than the U.S. due to import tax, but the cars tend to hold their value much more than in the states since upkeep is so inexpensive. In other words, since you need to spend less money keeping your car in good running shape, most cars are kept in tip-top condition and therefore worth more when it comes time to sell them used. The roads are often bumpy and sometimes muddy in Cost Rica so many choose vehicles with four wheel drive, but in the more populated areas the roads are paved and maintained so a small, economical car is fine.
